Style

This semester has been all about developing a personal style with my art. Or more specifically, learning about myself and what I want to say with my art and how I want to say it. I landed on a figurative style I was interested in a few months ago, and I feel like there's a lot of exploration I can do with it. I'm loving my recent figure studies.

On the painting side of things, developing a body of work is quite an undertaking. What do I want to say with my artwork? It's a very big question that will take a lot of time and reflection to answer (in fact it's a question that may never really get an answer). I'm getting there slowly but surely. Our recent painting assignments have been serial. This was my first 2 part series. I'm not too interested in continuing this particular series, but I feel like it was a necessary step for me.
This thing is pretty big, about 1' x 4'

I think I may start using a journal again, for random thoughts and ideas. I've neglected sketching and writing for a few years now, but I feel like at this point, scribbling might be incredibly valuable. Stay creative.

1-2

Look, paintings! The last painting of my Painting 1 class and the first of my Painting 2. It's such a great feeling to see myself improving.

This

I entered some work into the 500X show today, it would be amazing if any got accepted. Here's hoping!

The Way I Figure It

I love figure drawing. People are so beautiful, and fascinating to study and draw. These are some of my quicker, more experimental figure drawings from the past few months.

Painting

I've finally gotten my act together and started painting again, and I've never felt better with myself. I'm taking painting classes (so I have no choice but to work) and loving every second of it. It feels amazing to be so productive. Here are my works from the past two months to get you caught up, with plenty more to come.

Monument
First up is Monument, which is my personal favorite. I found this beautiful deer skull at the mini-mall a few months back. I feel like I started to form a bond with him over the course of this painting, it ended up feeling much more personal than I expected.

Rogue
Rogue was an abstraction assignment. Mainly based on a little toy slinky my sister gave me.
Golem
And my most recent work is Golem. The assignment was to build something out of "pieces" of mid-century modern furniture and textiles. Strange assignment, and I made sure the results were stranger.

I'm happy to be back into the swing of things, and I'll continue to update more frequently. There will most likely be a new painting every two weeks for the next month or two. And for anyone interested, almost all of my work is for sale, just email me if you want details.

Check out the gallery, which has a new design,  spread it around. Show your friends, or your parents, or strangers if you want.
Comment, critique, or just say hi, and if you're into it you can follow me ( Astronautical ) on instagram as well, I post some artsy stuff there pretty frequently

Thanks to everyone for reading (most posts won't be this long), and especially thanks to those who support me.

Stay cool cats

Inspiration

While I'm busy trying to crawl through the rest of this less-than-fun semester of school, and rearranging my mind's living space, I haven't has much time or soul to spare on creativity.

So in the mean-time I've added links to some artists I think are amazing right around there-ish ---->

Check them all out, they're all incredible and all inspirations to me

AstroNautical

Well I've got this thing set up enough for a start. Over time I'll add more to it, like inspirations and all manner of interesting things. For now it's just going to float around as a gallery for my work, and the blog will be here to show what I'm up to, I imagine it will mostly be doodles and sketches from my journal and work in progress pictures of whatever I may be doing. So for now, just click the little gallery link hiding up there and take a look at my work, follow me if you're into that sort of thing, and show your friends if you think it's any good. Just spread it around. Thanks for looking :D

Under Construction

It's been a long-time goal of mine to get a blog/website and start building myself up as an artist. I've grown confident enough in my talent, so I'm going to start making this into something real for myself. Hopefully if I have people following, and I have documentation of my work, it will inspire me to grow more. I'm still figuring out this blog business, but I'm ready to get rolling. Stay tuned, it's gonna be big
